iPhone Coding Techniques
Hour #1: Owen - When Bad Code goes Good - making a crashing iPhone app
usable.
Hour #2: More Than You Ever Thought There Was To Know About
Initializers In Objective-C The humble initializer hides a lot of
complexity, and a surprising number of things to get wrong. We'll talk
about: • How Objective C and C++ differ in allocation and
initialization. • The separation of allocation and initialization. •
Memory zones. • How to call the initializer of a superclass. • What to
return from an initializer. • What's the best way to set instance
variables in an initializer, and why is the answer controversial. •
Designated initializers -- what they are, why they are, and what the
rules are. • What initialization method should you override for an
object that will be read from a NIB file. (Hint: It depends.) • How
allocation and initialization interact with class clusters. (Why
subclassing something like NSArray is different.)

first Wednesday)
