MacTechGrp Meeting Wednesday Sept 2, 2009 7-9PM Room 315 Bldg E51 MIT
Sloan School

Speaker - John Shockey

Hour #1: We'll be talking about Snow Leopard and how it affects your
Macintosh usage and development.

Hour #2: "Living with the iPhone SDK" -- John Shockey has been
working on an iPhone application, and he'll be showing it off -
including his always valuable insights on development:

"I recently decided to create a small sample iPhone application. My
goals were to (1) be a real application solving a real problem, (2) be
something I could put on the App Store, even though it probably won't
make much money, and (3) be a good application for a MacTechGroup
tutorial. It's still in progress, but along the way I've run into some
warts in the iPhone SDK -- or at least ways it didn't match what I
wanted. So instead of a tutorial, I'll talk about some of the problems
and oddities I encountered, why I felt the obvious way of handling
them wasn't ideal, and the unconventional code I ended up with instead
-- and we'll look at the actual code involved. You could call it a
"Tips and Tricks" talk -- but I think it's a little more interesting
than that. If there's time after that, I'll gladly answer questions
about the more conventional aspects of the application which include
using all sorts of view controllers, and interfacing with both of the
address book frameworks."
Got iPhone/Mac Development stuff you want to show or talk about? Bring
it to the meeting, and mention it during the first half hour or so,
along with questions and announcements!

We are trying a messaging strategy recommended by other user groups.
We'll have two meeting emails - one a week before, and one a day
before. Hopefully, you won't find the additional message too onerous.
