MacTechGroup

The MacTechGroup holds meetings for Macintosh programmers on the first Wednesday of each month at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA.

Next Meeting:
Nov 7 2012 7:00 PM Building E51 Room 335 MIT Sloan School

NOTE THAT OUR OFFICIAL ROOM IS 335 - but check the other rooms in that corridor!!!!!

Subject: Neurogames
Presenter: Praveen Aravamudham

Praveen says he can use brain waves to control an iPad app, or make objects move, or bend spoons, or something like that. You'll have to come to find out for sure.
We haven't had a session since Alan Kay visited us in 1989 who talked about neurons that focuses on the brain, and Praveen has an app all about the brain just in time when the elections will be over. Praveen was here last year and gave a great talk on storyboards, which he has done for a couple of groups, getting international acclaim and bipartisan support. Anyway, here's his description of what he's going to talk about.

The human brain is the most fascinating part of the human body - alas we
do not know much about it when compared to the heart, lungs, liver etc
etc. We have heard of heart transplants, liver transplants and other
medical surgeries but have not heard much about brain related surgeries
at least to the common individual. In my opinion part of the problem
lies in not understanding what makes the brain tick? Enter NueroGames -
Games designed to help you relax and help you increase your attention
span by looking at your brain's EEG values. By using a headset that
gives us the raw EEG values of a brain, NueroGames calculates the
corresponding wave frequency of the raw EEG values (EEG wave frequency
can be alpha/beta/gamma/delta/theta/mu).

The next time someone asks you to relax and stay focused - use
Neurogames - the app will scientifically make you relax and stay focused.

The first half hour to hour, we have an open discussion session.
Hope we will see you there!

The MacTechGrp always meets the first Wednesday of the month. (Sometimes I screw up the date of the notice, but it's always the first Wednesday)

You can get more information on the MacTechGrp and directions at http://www.mactechgroup.org. We're also on Meetup.com now - check it out. Please sign up for our group on Meetup, and swell our ranks. It's free to sign up. I'm paying the bill.
