Sept 4 - 7PM Message-ID: <05A09B6C-9B1C-4AE0-B437-9EEA805476BD@clipboardinc.com> MacTechGroup The MacTechGroup holds meetings for Macintosh programmers on the first Wednesday of each month at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. Next Meeting: Sept 4 2013 7:00 PM Building E51 Room 315 MIT Sloan School NOTE THAT OUR OFFICIAL ROOM IS 315 - but check the other rooms in that corridor!!!!! Subject: Rescuing Macintosh Files Speaker: Gary McGath The first half hour to hour, we have an open discussion session. Our final hour is for the presentation, which will be Gary McGath, author ofFiles That Last, will be talking about File Archiving and Salvaging old data, here's his description: Rescuing Macintosh Files Recovering decades-old files from Macs presents special challenges. In the old days, there were Mac-only formats like MacPaint and MacWrite. Plain text files used a different character set from everyone else. Files for the same application on Mac and Windows weren't compatible with each other. Mac files weren't even a single ordered sequence of bytes, violating a basic assumption of file systems today. On the hardware side, most modern computers can't read Classic floppies. If you need to recover pre-OS X Mac files, what can you do? Gary McGath, author of Files that Last, offers suggestions on how to salvage the data and move it to a more usable format. ************************ You can get a map showing building E51 at The MacTechGrp always meets the first Wednesday of the month. Includes how to add physical properties such as gravity, forces, reactions to collisions, and more to dynamic items. These behaviors, with the accompanying dynamic items, are added to the new 2D physics engine. The code for example programs showing the use of the physics engine, dynamic items, and physical behaviors will be shown. Apple hopes that dynamic interfaces will enhance the user experience. ************************ You can get a map showing building E51 at The MacTechGrp always meets the first Wednesday of the month.
